Pac ‘n Roll: ROLLED OVER!

I went back to this today, and surprised myself by completing it. I was really plowing through the levels, and didn’t realise how many I’d completed, and suddenly I was on the end boss. Excellent! Some of the levels today were pretty difficult, and I soon lost most of the 15-or-so lives I’d racked up earlier in the game. Specifically, there was a bit where you had to roll over a collapsing bridge, then back again, before it disappeared. At …

Pac ‘n Roll

Completed all of World 3 this evening, and as a result of collecting a certain number of gems, I unlocked World 7-1, on Pac Moon. Basically, it was a DS version of the original Pac-Man, with a goal of 10,000 points to gain another gem. Luckily, it was pretty simple and I soon had some 18,000 points before I died. Back into the main game, and I’m now on to World 4 – Ghost Land. Uh, but all the lands …

Pac ‘n Roll

And on to (and past) World 2. It’s, erm, a bit easy so far. Fun still though! Plenty of ramps and launchers and hilly rolly bits and springs and a pinball bit. And then a boss at the end of the world. One power pellet isn’t enough to dispose of him – oh no. He needs three, collected in quick succession, and the you can eat him. Repeat a couple more times, and he haev teh dead. Then onto World …

Pac ‘n Roll

Noooooooooooooo! Too many DS games to play! Pac ‘n Roll arrived today, and of course, I had to play it. And it’s ACEBEST. You control Pac-Man by rubbing the stylus over his face on the lower screen, like a trackball. He then rolls around the level on the top screen. It’s really quite clever. You can do long fast “strokes” to power forward, and there are assorted hats to wear to add new abilities and stuff. Played through all of …

Pac’n Roll Remix (Switch): COMPLETED!

No, I have no idea why I played this either. It’s one of the games on the somewhat hit-and-miss Pac-Man Museum+ collection and although it’s not really bad, there’s nothing special about it. Not least because the USP of “stroking” Pac-Man with your Nintendo DS stylus in order to twang him around the levels is totally lost. That’s said, I did enjoy most of it, aside from a couple of later levels where there are some nasty jumps-in-3D with no …

3D Space Harrier (3DS): COMPLETED!

This week, the long awaited 3D Classics from Sega finally made it to the 3DS in Europe. Well, two games did, anyway, with more to come. So far, Space Harrier and Super Hang On have been released, and I decided to pick up Space Harrier. Many, many years ago, I was the champion of Space Harrier at this here arcade in Southport: View Larger Map Good times. I’d go there a few times a year and I’d still be at …

The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles (360): COMPLETED!

Super marathon session today, resulting in the end of the Shivering Isles expansion pack and questline. I’m classing it as a separate game to Oblivion, in terms of completion status for several reasons: the size, the cost, the fact you don’t need to have played the main game to “do” Shivering Isles, and it’s an entirely separate, self-contained world. Plus, Bethesda list in on their site as a separate game anyway, so if it’s good enough for them, I feel …

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (360)

Since I was in Anvil anyway, and Crowhaven was just a short walk away, I decided to follow up the Grey Prince’s quest, and find out about his parents. Worked my way through the dungeon of Crowhaven, and killed Lord Lovidicus. Found his diary, and then worked my way out. I took a wrong turn on the way to the exit, and found myself being attacked by a Vampire Knight. Erk! I’d heard that catching Vampirism was a Bad Thing, …

Hello Kitty Roller Rescue: RESCUED!

Hurrah for cuteness! I infiltrated the space base of the evil block king bloke, and was turned into a block myself a few times by lasers and stuff. Made my way to another really simple boss, who effectively killed himself. After that, it was onto the final level, where the villagers were generating power to fire a photon cannon at a giant robot, and I had to slow him down by throwing bombs at him and then launching pineapples at …

Space Invaders DS: INVADED!

I did wonder if I was nearing the end of the game when the “level select” markers seemed to fill the entire map. Some of the final few levels are bloody hard though, or at least would be, if I hadn’t have played Original Mode for a fair while and unlocked some useful power-ups. Level 19 was the hardest by far. It looks like a “normal” Invaders screen, but the invaders move up rather than down – trying to escape. …

Zelda no Densetsu: The Hyrule Fantasy

Seems I haven’t played this in a while, and, with Spider-Man 2, Advance Wars: Dual Strike, Pac ‘n Roll, and Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan all out of the way, I thought I’d best return to it. And it is still too hard. I managed, after several attempts, to get past the first lot of Blue Dark Nuts, only to find a second lot almost immediately afterwards. More, in fact. Spent ages regaining bombs and health, only to die again. And again. …

Prehistoric Isle (Steam Deck): COMPLETED!

I totally forgot (again, I expect) that I had access to that SNK game collection on my Steam Deck. I think it came from Amazon original, so isn’t Steam-native, so maybe that’s why. Anyway, stumbled across it again and had a look, and Prehistoric Isle caught my eye. So I completed it. Standard Arcade Shooter Disclaimer applies: yes, I used All The Credits. These games are designed to swallow 10ps, so I’ve no shame in pumping it full of virtual …

The Many Pieces of Mr. Coo (Switch): COMPLETED!

Back in the 90s, Channel 4 in the UK would sometimes show strange animated short films from abroad. I think they were part of some animation festival or something. This game immediately put be in mind of one of those. It’s a weird, nonsensical, abstract cartoon but it’s also a point and click adventure game. There’s no (recognisable) speech. Little in the way of explicit instruction, no narration, and certainly no explanation to the events. But it works! Assembling the …
